People say hair is the crown that you never take off. Having a great hair does not only enhance your appearance but also boosts your confidence and makes you feel good about yourself. But taking care of our hair requires time and effort. In fact, choosing the perfect hairstyle can be quite challenging not only for women but even for crossdressers and transgender women because it involves careful study of one’s face shape.

One of the hairstyles that never goes behind the times is bangs. As a crossdresser, having bangs brings a feminine and youthful touch to your face. Great bangs soften the masculine features of a man’s face and hide the strong features that give you away when trying to pass, like your forehead and brow ridge. If, like me, you are keen on having bangs yourself, there are steps to find out what your face shape is and what type of bangs is appropriate for you. Is it baby bangs, free-spirited fringe, blunt fringe, thin fringe, full fringe, A-shaped bangs, dragon whisker bangs, curly bangs, or deep side part?

Today I will show you that choosing the perfect bangs is not that complicated! I will teach you a quick face shape test and hopefully after taking these easy steps, you will be able to find out and decide which of these types of bangs will give you the best and most feminine look you want to achieve when you crossdress. So let’s get moving and smoothen your way up to your best crossdressing accessory ever – your bangs!

30-Second Cutting Bangs and Face Shape Test

As promised, I am sharing a 30-second test to find out whether or not the shape of your face is suitable for bangs. And if yes, I will also teach you how to choose the right bangs according to your face shape! So without further ado, let's now take the test!

Test 1: Cutting Bangs Test

Before we go into finding out the ideal type of bangs for you, let’s see first if your face is suitable for having bangs. To answer this, take a good look at your face in the mirror. If your forehead is one-third larger than your cheeks, then having bangs is suitable for you. Otherwise, having bangs may not be a good option.

Test 2: Face Shape Test

If you are suitable to have bangs, remember that you should choose the type of bangs which is most appropriate to your face. Here are the steps to find out your face shape. Choose one answer from each step.

Step 1: Tie all your hair up to get a clear view of your face. Look in the mirror and see which part is the widest.

1 – Forehead

2 – Cheekbone

3 – Lower jaw

Step 2: Compare the length and width of your face.

1 – Length is significantly greater than width

2 – Length is equal to or slightly greater than width

Step 3: Compare the length of your forehead and your jaw.

1 – Forehead > Jawline

2 – Forehead = Jawline

3 – Forehead < Jawline

Step 4: Determine your chin type!

1 – Sharp Jawline

2 – Square Jaw (Chin is flat.)

3 – Round Jaw (Chin has an obvious arc.)

Once done, determine your face shape based on your answers from the four-step test. There are basically five types of human face shapes – oblong, round, square, oval, and heart.

Take note that if your face length exceeds your face width by 1.5cm, then you have a long-shaped face.

Now that you have found out your face shape, it is now time to choose the perfect bangs for you! Bangs is a great addition to your crossdressing look, but it is also crucial to have bangs that complement your face and body, in order to pass and get that feminine appearance you want to achieve.

1. Baby Bangs

Sporting baby bangs will make you look fashionable as a crossdresser or transgender woman. Baby bangs, also known as eyebrow bangs or micro fringe, never really goes out of style. But take note that baby bangs have to match with the right face shape. I do not recommend it to people with very small eyes, narrow foreheads, strong facial lines, and strong frontal face bone. It simply would not work for these facial features. But with the right face shape and right hairstyle, having baby bangs will surely give off excellent results.

2. Free-spirited Fringe

From the name itself, free-spirited fringe gives off a carefree and youthful vibe. This type of bangs may look a little messy because of its irregular length but the disheveled look makes a crossdresser or a transgender woman appear fashionable and younger. What makes it great for crossdressers is that the front of a free-spirited fringe flatters high foreheads and its side flatters high cheekbones. It is perfect for tall crossdressers with diamond face shape.

3. Blunt Fringe

If you have seen a woman or crossdressers with bangs that look like it has been cut straight using a knife, then you have seen a blunt fringe. This type of bangs covers the whole forehead. If you are a crossdresser who wants to look sweet and cool at the same time, you will definitely love it. The lower the curl of your blunt fringe and the lighter your hair color, the cooler the hairstyle. Blunt fringes, or comic bangs as some may call it, are for crossdressers whose face shapes look like Lisa’s of Blackpink.

4. Thin, Wispy Fringes

This type of bangs is characterized by neat lines of hair covering the forehead and some parts of the eyebrows. It also gives one a younger-looking aura because of its lightly feathered texture towards the end. With bangs like this, a crossdresser will look sexier and more delicate.

If you want to try cutting your own thin, wispy bangs, remember that the ends of the left and right sides of the fringes must create a V-shaped angle under a person’s nose, as seen in the illustration.

This type of bangs is best suited for crossdressers with long face and relatively wide forehead.

5. Full Fringe

As compared to thin, wispy fringes, full fringe bangs cover the left and right sides of the forehead with the same length as that of the center of your forehead. Full fringes are usually curly, which goes well with long and curly hair. Rocking this type of bangs gives a crossdresser a feeling of lightness and softness that is commonly attributed to women.

Your full fringe depends on your face length and the facial features you want to hide or emphasize.

I recommend this type of bangs to crossdressers with oval, small round, heart-shaped, and diamond faces. It also goes with those with high cheekbones.

6. A-shaped Bangs

To put it simply, A-shaped bangs look like a full fringe moved to the left or right side of the forehead. It is characterized by a slant that parts near the center of the forehead but is angled away from the face. It covers a crossdresser’s high hairline and softens the jawline, making it ideal for those with long or diamond face, wide forehead, and high hairline.

7. Dragon Beard Bangs

One can achieve this cute type of bangs by leaving a small pinch of hair on each side of the forehead. The pinch of hair on both sides are left as they are and become straight or curled depending on circumstances.

Dragon beard bangs flatter the curves of your face and quickly block your forehead. This type of bangs is suitable to most face shapes. Just a word of caution though – I would not recommend crossdressers with thin face to do dragon beard bangs because it creates an illusion of a longer face.

8. Curly Bangs

Curly bangs has a certain degree of volume and sense of mess to it. Although it can be tricky to pull off, successfully achieving this type of bangs make one look soft, cute, and lovely. When crossdressing, you can pair it with a fluffy bun. It is perfect for crossdressers with oval or melon face and for those with small round face.

9. Deep Side Part

This last type of bangs is characterized by a slant in the center, forming an S-shape curve in the face. It is considered as the universal bangs because it is the “go-to” bangs of celebrities. This bangs stretch down to the cheekbones making it suitable for crossdressers with narrow foreheads and sunken temples. The good thing about deep side part though is that it goes well with any face shape.

If you want to achieve this look, it is important to note that the top part of the bangs need to have a certain degree of shagginess according to the length of the person’s face.

Summary

As a crossdresser, you can up your fashion game by adding beautiful bangs to your look. Doing so will not only make you look more feminine but can also improve how your self-confidence, either when going out or just alone at home. To pull this off, it is crucial to find out what the shape of your face is so you will be able to select the type of bangs that is most appropriate to you. There is a multitude of bangs you can choose from according to your face shape. But always keep in mind that the best look is the one you feel the best in.
